Alt. Flag of Crete

The original flag of the autonomous Cretan State used to be the then flag of Greece, with one out of its four squares painted red (instead of blue), with a star in its centre, as a symbol of the Sultan's suzerainty (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cretan_S…).

Thanks to the struggles of the Cretans against the Ottoman Empire, who never intended to have an independent state, but rather to have enosis (union) with the rest of the Greeks, Crete is part of Greece since 1908 (de jure since 1913), i.e. more than a century now. To create an "alternative" flag, for a state that was created out of geopolitical games, controversies and fighting nationalisms, by highlighting/ augmenting the symbols of oppression (that is the Turkish flag for the Cretans) it has nothing to do with peace.
